Adopt a Grandparent, the app with a million volunteers, launches an SOS to prevent its closure.

The Adopt a Grandparent Foundation, which recently surpassed one million registered users, has launched an "SOS" campaign to prevent its closure, given the difficulties in ensuring the project's financial sustainability.
Since its launch in 2014 , the program has supported more than 12,000 seniors and has involved 21,000 volunteers from across Spain.
However, its promoters warn that it is now at a "delicate moment" as they cannot cover infrastructure costs and guarantee the project's financial sustainability.
"I never thought it would die of success. We're living in a critical situation because, although each user costs a few cents, when you multiply that by a million, it's an unaffordable amount for a foundation that's independent and doesn't receive subsidies like ours," explained founder Alberto Cabanes.
To reverse the situation and achieve sustainability, the foundation has launched a campaign to recruit members, whom it calls ambassadors. "For us, they are ambassadors because they share our values and support us with a small amount in our mission to support older adults," he said.
According to them, the donation is tax-deductible, so the ambassadors will be able to recover up to 80% of it in their next income tax return . "If, for example, they contribute 15 euros a month, the Treasury will refund them 12 euros," says Cabanes.
Since the campaign was launched, more than 3,500 ambassadors have supported the foundation, but they need 7,500 more to ensure the organization's sustainability, as neither volunteers nor seniors pay anything to participate.
"Great projects are created by community , and I'm sure that in a few years, we'll be glad to have created a large and beneficial project for the world that will help millions of seniors and will be a social benchmark to be proud of," he emphasized.
