América and Toluca draw goalless and lackluster in the first leg of the Grand Final.

On a night filled with anticipation, but lacking in excitement and a touch of controversy, América and Toluca played to a goalless draw in the first leg of the 2025 Clausura Tournament Grand Final , played before a packed crowd at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes. It was a tense and intensely contested duel, but one that never quite exploded. In fact, at times, it bordered on boredom.

From the start, Toluca 's approach was clear. Antonio Mohamed opted for a conservative strategy, mindful of the absence of his leading scorer, Paulinho, who was out due to injury. "El Turco" deployed a five-man defensive line and practically abandoned attacking, sheltering in place at the back. To seal the tie, he even withdrew Alexis Vega in the 80th minute and brought on Antonio Briseño to hold the score at 0-0.

América , for its part, was the team that tried the hardest. They played wide, opened up the field, and pushed deep with quick touches, but their football was more lateral than vertical. André Jardiné made offensive moves, but the story was always the same: Toluca, well positioned, dictated the slow pace of the game and neutralized the Águilas.

The clearest chance of the match came in the 82nd minute, when Diego Valdés masterfully set up Rodrigo Aguirre , who had a chance to score . However, his shot went just wide, drowning out the cheers of the thousands of Azulcrema fans who filled the stands.

In the final minutes, América surged forward with more momentum than clarity . Their attacks were desperate, more driven by pride than by a well-defined strategy. The score remained unbroken.

The series is completely open . The second leg will be played next Sunday, May 25th at the Nemesio Díez Stadium, at 7:00 PM. There are no tiebreakers based on position in the table; if there is a tie on aggregate, extra time and penalties will be played. To be crowned champion, someone will have to score.
