Spain has one of the world's most promising athletes in its hands. Ladimir Mayorov, a 12-year-old boy who excels in table tennis . Before even turning 12, he was crowned Spanish Under-19 champion! And his hunger for titles doesn't stop there.
In 1997, at the World Table Tennis Championships, Ukrainian Eduard Mayorov and Russian Svetlana Bakhtina, both former professional athletes , met and fell in love. They moved to Spain, where little Ladimir and his sister Cristina were born.
His passion for the sport continues to develop, but before he can even be considered a teenager, he's already one of the most prominent table tennis players in the Iberian country. Shortly before turning 12, Mayorov was crowned Spanish Under-19 champion , a feat that caught even his father completely off guard.
"We signed Ladimir up for the Under-19 Championship so he could play against better players and benefit from losses because you learn a lot from defeats, but everything went the other way ," the prodigy's father said in a Mundo Deportivo report.
He's already the world's best U-13 player, and most recently celebrated a silver medal at the U-15 European Championships, but his ambition doesn't end there. Aware that if his progress continues, he'll soon reach the pinnacle of table tennis, Mayorov dreams big: "My dream isn't to go to the Olympics, my dream is to win Olympic gold."
