The Monterrey women's team achieved their first victory in the 2025 Apertura Tournament by defeating Atlético San Luis 3-0 at the Alfonso Lastras Stadium.
With goals from Diana García (25), Christina Burkenroad (58) and Laura Evangelista (63), the regias scored their first three points of the season before just over a thousand fans who gathered at the venue.
Amelia Valverde's team was on the offensive from the opening minutes of the match against a San Luis team that was ineffective in the opponent's penalty area.
After a mistake by the home team, Diana García fired a shot from inside the San Luis Potosí area to put the Rayadas ahead.
Australian forward Emily Gielnik, a star reinforcement for the visitors, registered her first assist in Mexico with a pass to Christina Burkenroad, who made it 2-0. Evangelista unleashed a shot from outside the box to further the Monterrey celebration.
It was the second consecutive home game for the Potosí team, following their debut on matchday one against Guadalajara, which they lost 0-2 with a pair of goals from Chivas' Alicia Cervantes. Monterrey, meanwhile, also didn't get off to a good start, losing 4-0 to Pumas Femenil.
San Luis and Monterrey have faced each other 12 times. The record is favorable to the Monterrey team, with 11 wins to one for San Luis. On matchday three, Monterrey will face Querétaro, while San Luis will visit Cruz Azul.

Washington. American tennis player Venus Williams returned to the court after 16 months away from the professional circuit. The winner of 21 Grand Slam singles and doubles titles defeated Canadian Eugénie Bouchard and local player Clervie Ngounoue 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the DC Open in Washington.
Williams, 45, smiled in disbelief, as did the other three players who participated in the game before a packed court and the watchful eye of NBA star Kevin Durant.
It's great to be able to play. My situation this year is very different than last year. It's like night and day. Being able to be here and prepare for the tournament instead of preparing for surgery is great
, said Williams, who spoke in an interview with NBC earlier this month about having surgery to remove uterine fibroids.
