The Metropolitano could host the Champions League final in 2027.

At the Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday, the government approved "a series of necessary guarantees" to ensure that the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium, home of Atlético Madrid, can host the men's Champions League final in 2027.
"The Government has approved a series of necessary guarantees so that the men's Champions League final can be played in 2027, in this case, at the Metropolitano stadium, home to Atlético de Madrid," said the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría , at the press conference following the Council of Ministers meeting.
The government spokesperson explained that this decision is in response to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) requesting "this collaboration" from the government so that the men's Champions League final can be played at the Metropolitano stadium in 2027. "And we gave the go-ahead at the Council of Ministers meeting this morning," Alegría confirmed.
The minister recalled that Spain has already hosted "sporting events of this magnitude" in the past. "In 2022, we will also host the men's Europa League final in Seville. In 2024, the women's Champions League will be held in Bilbao, and also during 2025, the men's Europa League final will be held in Bilbao," she listed.
This would be the second time the Metropolitano hosted the final of the top continental club competition, having already hosted the title match in 2019 between Liverpool and Tottenham, which ended with the Reds lifting the "Orejona" trophy. Furthermore, this was the fifth final held in Madrid, following the four held at the Santiago Bernabéu (1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010).
