A spectacular hiking route between cliffs, sea caves, and natural viewpoints in Galicia

The Galician province of Lugo hides beautiful natural wonders. One of them is the impressive viewpoint overlooking Pereira Beach and Área Grande , known as O Fuciño do Porco. Although its real name is Punta Socastro, the popular term means "pig's snout" in Spanish, referring to the hill's silhouette. The cape offers a trail that runs along a wooden walkway between cliffs overlooking the Cantabrian Sea.
A trail along the tip of Fuciño do Porco
This is a 3.7-kilometer route that goes to the edge of the rock formation. You can walk it in approximately 2 hours and finish in A zigzag wooden walkway. The trail ends at a viewpoint at the highest point of the hill, where you'll have the best views of the Viveiro estuary and other parts of O Vicedo.
The route is of low difficulty and very well signposted. It starts on the blue trail near Abrela Beach. Once there, you'll climb a road until you reach a dirt track lined with eucalyptus trees. Following the wider trail, you'll find steps nearby that will allow you to climb to the walkways overlooking the sea. From this point, you can already see the islands of Gabeira, Insua, and Coelleira, the points of the Roncadoiro Lighthouse and Estaca de Bares, and at the end of the estuary, you can see Covas, Viveiro, and the port of Celeiro.
Despite having many stairs along the way, it is an ideal walk for both children and dogs; however, it is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
How can I visit Fuciño do Porco?
It's important to note that the trail is currently closed for repairs until further notice. When open, admission is completely free; however, due to its high popularity between June and September, advance reservations are required through the trail's website. The trail is open to the public during the rest of the year.
