American video game developer Rockstar Games announced Friday that it has postponed the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA) , scheduled for late 2025, to May 26, 2026.
" We're deeply sorry this is delayed. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been incredibly humbling for our entire team ," the company said in a statement.

The fall return of GTA, whose trailer for the eighth title in the series has accumulated more than 251 million views on YouTube, was one of the most anticipated new releases for the video game world in 2025 .
" With every game we've released, the goal has always been to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this additional time to deliver the quality you expect and deserve, " the statement concluded.

The latest version of the game was released in September 2013 and became the most successful video game debut in history, grossing $800 million in its first 24 hours on the market.
The story was set in the fictional state of San Andreas, inspired by Southern California, and featured retired bank robber Michael De Santa, gangster Franklin Clinton, and drug and arms dealer Trevor Philips.EFE
