Everything you need to know about Comic Con Bogotá 2025: the festival debuts a new movie theater

The comic book and pop culture convention Comic Con kicked off its seventeenth edition this Friday in Bogotá, and for the first time, it will feature a movie theater , according to event coordinator Steven Quintero, in a press conference.

" It's a dream. We've been working on it for four years, and it's finally here: we have a movie theater where we're going to show 10 films. We're going to have some of those panels with the actors from the films (who) are going to come here, like Majida Issa, co-producer and star of 'El bolero de Rubén,' or Juan Pablo Barragán from 'La sombra del juez,' " Quintero explained.

At the opening of the event, the voice actors who voiced SpongeBob SquarePants, Krillin from Dragon Ball, and Frieza from the same Japanese anime, Luis Carreño, Eduardo Garza, and Gerardo Reyero, participated in a press conference alongside Japanese singer-songwriter Mika Kobayaski.

Garza asserted that artificial intelligence will not replace voice-over artists in the near future: " Actors work with emotions, and it's very difficult for a machine to replicate an emotion. It sounds horrible, empty, false (...) I'm not afraid of AI either ." The Mexican actor and director also indicated that the essence of the dubbing industry, despite social media, remains anonymity.

" Dubbing isn't about becoming famous, it's about the simple pleasure of bringing many characters to life in a single day ," Garza said.

Comic Con will be open from today through Sunday at the Corferias fairgrounds in Bogotá and will include a trade show featuring 200 exhibitors , a gaming area, and an " academic zone " for talks, conferences, and workshops.

As every year, a "Cosplay Cup" will be held, with prizes of 5 million Colombian pesos (about $1,240) and a lifetime ticket to Comic Con Colombia, Quintero said.
