Peru will maintain the maximum capacity of 5,600 people per day at Machu Picchu until 2026.

Peru announced it will maintain the entry of 5,600 people to Machu Picchu, one of the country's main tourist attractions. This decision will remain in place while a technical study is conducted on the archaeological site's capacity.

According to Moira Novoa, Vice Minister of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries, new routes have been implemented in the region since last year, so it is crucial to conduct a new study to determine whether capacity can be increased. This analysis is being conducted in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
Novoa confirmed that tickets to visit this attraction will continue to be sold in person , although real-time information will be provided so tourists know availability before arriving.
On the other hand, he asserted that the conservation of Machu Picchu has not received any comments from UNESCO and that its heritage value remains intact. "We have the responsibility and the role of preserving our wonder of the world," he emphasized.
The new protocol for ticket sales to Machu Picchu will be announced on July 10th, with the aim of promoting improvements in ticket management and delivery.

Culture Minister Fabricio Valencia stated that there is no formal proposal or technical support for a supposed increase in the daily visitor capacity to Machu Picchu to 27,000, responding to rumors circulating on social media.
He also reiterated that the current daily access limit, set at 4,500 people during the low season and 5,600 during the high season, is based on technical studies approved by the state and aligned with the site's conservation criteria , which is a World Heritage Site.
