Caen (14): Drunk and banned from the country, a repeat Somali offender returns to prison after causing chaos in the city

According to Ouest-France , on July 31, 2025, a 39-year-old Somali man was arrested in Caen (Calvados) while drunk on the public highway, throwing cans onto the tram track and insulting passersby. The municipal police intervened, and the man insulted a policewoman and refused to blow into the breathalyzer.

Already convicted several times, including for home invasion with sexual assault in 2022, he was banned from entering Calvados and banned from French territory for ten years. However, he could not be deported to Somalia due to the unstable situation in the country.

Presented for immediate appearance on August 4, 2025, he requested time to prepare his defense. The court issued a committal warrant, considering that there was a risk of reoffending and recalling his extensive criminal record. He will be tried on September 26, 2025.
