Two new swimming areas closed in the Dordogne due to cyanobacteria

In its weekly update, the Regional Health Agency announced new closures of swimming areas in the Dordogne due to the presence of cyanobacteria.
Many swimming spots and beaches in the Dordogne will remain closed this week. In its weekly update dated Wednesday, August 6, the regional health agency provided an update on the situation. Three swimming sites are still under enhanced surveillance, or surveillance level 1: Coux-et-Bigaroque and Montagrier, which is newly monitored, as well as Limeuil. Note that the Cénac and Vitrac bridges in Domme are no longer under surveillance, as are those in Cazoulès, Vitrac, and Carsac-Aillac.
Two new closuresThe bathing area closures affect nine sites, including two new closures in Brantôme and Castelnaud. The other seven sites are Allès-sur-Dordogne, Douchapt, Le Buisson-de-Cadouin, Lisle, Port-Sainte-Foy, Saint-Aulaye, and Tocane. The Saint-Julien-de-Lampon bathing area is open again.
Please note that the ARS only monitors the waters of bathing sites that are listed by the local authorities (town hall, department, urban communities, etc.) and declared by them. It does not carry out checks on all waterways. When the quality of bathing water does not meet the standards, the town hall must prohibit swimming and inform the public.
Water activities such as canoeing and kayaking remain possible (outside of closed swimming areas), but it is important to take certain precautions, such as not swimming and avoiding contact with clumps of algae.
