Ghent (Bel): Prison inmates refuse to return to their cells after the walk because their televisions no longer work.

Seventy-six inmates at the Nieuwe Wandeling prison in Ghent refused to return to their cells after their morning walk on Saturday. According to the prison administration, the inmates were angry because a visitation opportunity had been canceled and the televisions were out of order. The police had to call in reinforcements.
“The problems with the television stations seem to be the final straw for the inmates,” explains Kathleen Van De Vijver. “They complain about the deplorable living conditions due to the lack of staff. We have tried to negotiate, but they persist in their demands.”
