Power consumption, repairability: new smartphones and tablets must now have an "energy" label

Consumers will now be able to make better choices about their phones. Starting this Friday, June 20, new smartphones and tablets will be required to have an energy label. Previously mandatory for refrigerators , washing machines, dishwashers, and televisions, the energy label is now being extended to these new appliances throughout the European Union.
This sheet will indicate the product's energy characteristics and durability. The goal remains to ensure transparency with consumers before any purchase. Thanks to this label, consumers will be able to estimate in advance the lifespan of their next smartphone or tablet.
These labels are quite easy to spot with their colored scale from A to G. In detail, this sheet will specify:
- annual electricity consumption (in kWh)
- the level of repairability of the device
- the total battery life
- drop, water and dust resistance
- the energy class represented by a letter between A (for the most economical devices) and G (for the most energy-hungry devices)
For more details about the product, the user can refer to the QR code on the label. This links to the European database where all labeled products in Europe are listed.
It should be noted, however, that second-hand devices, foldable smartphones and smartphones dedicated to high-security communications are not affected by the extension of this system.
