"Drone debris fell on a private residential building in the Lipetsk district," the governor of the Lipetsk region, Igor Artamonov, said on Telegram. "A woman born in 1954 who lived in the building died. Two other people were injured," he added. Drones also caused a fire on the territory of a company in the city of Yelets - in the same region where several industrial complexes are located - without causing any casualties, the governor said.
One dead and four injured in OdessaOn the Ukrainian side, Russian strikes overnight from Wednesday to Thursday left at least four people injured in Odessa, a port city in the south of the country, according to emergency services. "A nine-story building was damaged following an enemy attack" which started a fire. Around fifty residents were evacuated and, "unfortunately, there are four injured," emergency services said on Telegram.
Russia and Ukraine have been engaging in near-daily drone strikes since Moscow launched an offensive against its Ukrainian neighbor more than three years ago. But Russian casualties from these strikes remain relatively rare. On Tuesday, a Ukrainian strike on a weapons factory in the city of Izhevsk, a new attack deep inside Russian territory, nevertheless left three dead and around thirty wounded, according to local authorities.
Russians and Ukrainians held talks in Turkey in May and June, which failed to produce a major breakthrough, as their positions remain irreconcilable. A third round has still not been announced. Donald Trump 's administration announced Tuesday that it had stopped delivering certain weapons to Kyiv , officially due to concerns about dwindling US ammunition stocks, which has raised concerns in Kyiv. The United States has been Ukraine's primary military (and financial) supporter since the start of the Russian assault in February 2022.
