From Dover Street Market to the Comme des Garçons galaxy of shows, the 82-year-old Japanese designer and her followers are a central part of Paris Fashion Week. Why?
“ It’s always a special day during Fashion Week, the one we all look forward to,” smiles street style photographer Marc Richardson. “It’s a very intense day, but if you really love fashion, it’s by far the most interesting.” This day is what English speakers who follow the fashion caravan call “Comme Day”: the day of the Comme des Garçons galaxy’s runway shows, traditionally on the Friday of Men’s Fashion Week. On the program? Junya Watanabe and Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, the most creative line of the empire founded by Rei Kawakubo in 1969 in Tokyo.
