Roberto Orci, Producer and Writer of 'Star Trek' and 'Transformers,' Dies at 51

The man who also worked on projects such as "Mission: Impossible III" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" died at his home on Tuesday, February 25.

Roberto Orci, screenwriter and producer of very famous franchises such as " Star Trek " and "Transformers", died this Tuesday, February 25 at the age of 51. He died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles from kidney disease, his manager told the Hollywood Reporter .
Born in Mexico, Roberto Orci moved to the United States at the age of 10 and began his writing career in the late 1990s on the series "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Hercules." He went on to write and produce over thirty episodes of JJ Abrams' hit series "Alias."
Roberto Orci was one of the most popular screenwriters in Hollywood around the 2010s, collaborating with producer Alex Kurtzman on famous films such as "Star Trek" (2009), "Star Trek Into Darkness" (2013), " Transformers " (2009) and "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen" (2009) or " The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (2014). He was also the screenwriter of the film "Mission: Impossible 3", by JJ Abrams, with whom he collaborated on several occasions.
Many people from the film world paid tribute to him on social media, starting with his brother JR, also a screenwriter. "He was a visionary storyteller with a boundless heart and a beautiful soul," he wrote in a statement.
“Roberto Orci was a gifted writer who left his mark on a generation and his death at just 51 is a tragic loss as I am sure there were more masterpieces to come. RIP to one of the greatest,” wrote famed Marvel director Joe Russo . Comic book writer and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld also paid tribute, writing: “This is terrible news. He was way too young. I loved his work. Rest in peace.”
Roberto Orci has spoken publicly about his past struggles with alcoholism and his recovery. He is survived by his father Roberto Orci Sr., his mother Macuqui Robau-Garcia, and his siblings JR, Taylor and Courtney Orci.
