Summer exhibitions: monastic economy, a model of sobriety

It also invites us to discover the monastic economy through the ages by questioning this model in the face of contemporary realities of sobriety and sustainable development. The main activity of monasteries has long been agriculture, which allowed them to live self-sufficiently, but this is no longer the case. Monks mainly manufacture food, cosmetic, and decorative products, taking up the challenge of respecting people and the environment. These products are also integrated into the Monastic brand, created by two hundred monasteries united around a reflection on their just needs and the spiritual approach to monastic work.

A quick visit to the museum shop is a must, with its products from the Carthusian fathers, ranging from plant elixirs to liqueurs and herbal products, not forgetting the jams from Notre-Dame des Gardes and the pâtés from Bricquebec.
