The Guard awarded the Mistralian city label on the sidelines of its day dedicated to Provence

The Guard awarded the Mistralian city label on the sidelines of its day dedicated to Provence

Provençal traditions were in the spotlight this Sunday, May 18th, in the city of Le Rocher. Throughout the day, during the "La Garde, Terre de Provence" event, stalls and entertainment were offered to the many visitors who flocked to Place de la République. They could notably attend the grand traditional parade, the folk dance performance, as well as a moment of "Provençal trad rock," led by the group Les Cigales Engatsées.

Demonstrations related to the trades of yesteryear were also offered by the Giens 1900 association, as well as several workshops on the Provençal language and expressions.

In terms of flavors, the gourmets of the city center were not left out, with the presence of numerous artisans who gave pride of place to local specialties (tapenade, oreillettes, olive oil, cade, calissons, etc.).

Finally, at the same time, La Garde's commitment to Provençal heritage was rewarded. Mayor Hélène Arnaud-Bill pledged to continue promoting this identity by signing the charter of membership for the Ciéuta mistralenco ("Mistralian City") label. Issued by the Félibrige association, it rewards, promotes, and connects the various municipalities working for Provençal culture. "There is a state of mind and a language to preserve," assured the mayor, who said she was very proud of this recognition.
