Between Lisbon and Cascais, more than 70% of real estate is purchased by foreigners

The route that runs along the Tagus River to the Atlantic between Lisbon and the seaside resort of Cascais is particularly popular with foreign buyers, especially Brazilians, notes the “Jornal Económico”.
Some thirty kilometers separate Lisbon from Cascais, a coastal town in the upscale suburbs of the Portuguese capital. Between the two winds Marginale Avenue, along the Tagus River all the way to the ocean, a prime route for living near the beaches and one that clearly appeals to foreign nationals. They accounted for 74% of real estate transactions in this sector in the first quarter of this year, according to the headline in Jornal Económico this morning .
The business daily pored over data from various real estate agencies, including those from the real estate organization Remax, to find that 953 properties were purchased there during the first quarter of 2025, including 196 by Brazilians and 111 by Americans, the only foreign buyers to exceed the 100 mark. At the national level, however, the Remax agency indicates that the number of foreign investors has fallen from 24 to 21%.
Among the nationalities, there are also Angolans, British, and French. Finally, the Jornal Económico points out that another section of the river is currently of particular interest to non-European buyers: the banks of the Douro River, in northern Portugal. Also during the first quarter, according to Remax data, 333 real estate transactions were completed there, including 119 by Brazilians and 50 by Americans.
