Emergency aid for farmers affected by lumpy skin disease

The Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region announced, this Friday, September 19, financial support for all farms affected by the lumpy skin disease virus.
Following the discovery of an outbreak of lumpy skin disease on a dairy farm in Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset, in the Rhône department, the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region released financial aid this Friday, September 10, for all affected farmers. Each farmer will receive financial support of up to €300 per euthanized cow, and €400 per euthanized cow for Young Farmers.
The virus, first detected in Savoie before spreading to Haute-Savoie and Ain, has had 78 confirmed outbreaks since the beginning of September. The Rhône region has been affected by the disease since Thursday, September 18.
Lumpy skin disease is a strictly animal disease that leads to significant losses in milk production and sometimes results in the death of some infected livestock. The arrival of the virus in the Rhône region therefore marks a new worrying stage in this health crisis, which is weakening the beef industry.
