What is seasonal work?

“Seasonal work is characterized by the performance of tasks normally required to be repeated each year, on roughly fixed dates, depending on the rhythm of the seasons (harvest, picking, etc.) or collective lifestyles.

This definition results from the provisions of article L 1242-2, 3° of the Labor Code, which lists, exhaustively, the cases in which a fixed-term contract can be concluded.

Seasonal work is also mentioned in Article L1251-6 of the same code, dedicated to temporary work, which states that a company may call upon a temporary employee to carry out a specific and temporary task called a mission, in exhaustively listed cases, including seasonal jobs.
