Furniture brand Casa in liquidation, 600 employees affected

Casa France's inexpensive home decor and furniture items are out: the Bobigny Commercial Court on Friday declared the company in liquidation, with its stores set to close, leaving nearly 600 employees out of work. The Bobigny Commercial Court "declares the conversion of the receivership procedure into liquidation without maintaining the company's activity."

The brand with the green and white logo will therefore disappear: this decision "results in the definitive cessation of activities of all of the brand's stores in France, as well as its support functions," Casa France commented in a press release. "In this context, all of the stores are in the process of closing," the chain added.

The management clarified that "the closure of the stores is underway, under the responsibility of the liquidator. A rapid cessation of activity is expected. The remaining stocks will be included in the liquidation procedure, under the responsibility of the liquidator, who may decide on their transfer as part of the settlement of debts."

Casa France and its 145 stores employ nearly 600 employees on permanent contracts. Nine takeover bids had been submitted, but none were successful: four were rejected by the administrators, two were deemed inadmissible, one was rejected, and two buyers ultimately withdrew, the court stated.

The compulsory liquidation "follows the absence of takeover offers deemed admissible or sufficiently sustainable in light of the criteria defined by the French Commercial Code," Casa France emphasizes. This outcome was expected: on June 11, Casa France's directors had requested the company be placed in compulsory liquidation, when it became apparent that the takeover offers risked being declared inadmissible. However, at the end of March, when the brand announced that it was requesting to be placed in receivership, it said it hoped to find "one or more buyers" for its points of sale.

Casa France states that it currently has "a cash position of 15 million euros (compared to 3 million euros at the start of the procedure), which will enable it to settle a significant portion of the liabilities within the framework of the compulsory liquidation."

"This liquidation is the direct consequence of the failure of Casa International, the Belgian subsidiary of the group, placed in liquidation in March 2025," Casa France adds. However, the Belgian subsidiary, a "historical entity" , "centralized essential functions – logistics, IT, finance, purchasing – without which the subsidiaries, including Casa France, could not operate autonomously."

A final blow for the brand, in "a market already in crisis for the furniture and decoration sector, strongly impacted by the economic situation in the real estate sector" , notes Casa France.

Like many brands in the sector, the company has suffered from a slowdown in business linked to the real estate crisis, but also from competition from Swedish giant Ikea and online retail. The Casa group had already closed or sold more than 10% of its stores in Europe, as part of a recovery plan implemented in early 2024 and intended to return to profitability in 2026. The furniture sector had experienced a post-Covid rebound, before stabilizing and then stalling in 2024.

In its stores, the brand offered furniture and accessories for the home and garden, as well as decorative items. The Casa chain, founded in 1975 in Belgium, is present in nine countries, with a network of 400 stores. The Casa group has a total of more than 2,500 employees.
