Will you have to wait seven days before receiving compensation from health insurance? This is a way for Social Security to save money on sick leave, which some employees are not particularly keen on.
Until now, a private sector employee was paid by health insurance from the fourth day of their leave. With this measure, they would only be paid from the seventh day. This is one of the avenues explored by the government, which is seeking to save €5.5 billion in the healthcare sector.
A risky option, according to doctors who fear that employees will choose to stay off work, with the risk of developing much more serious illnesses.
Another possibility is being considered: employers could cover the additional four days of waiting time themselves. This is out of the question for some retailers, as this option would stifle their small businesses.
To save more money, the government could also review the rules for long-term illnesses, which were previously covered 100% by health insurance.
