At the end of March, Switzerland had more than 400,000 active cross-border commuters (workers domiciled abroad with a Livret G savings account), a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the latest cross-border commuter statistics. Over the past five years, their number has increased by 20%, from 338,000 in 2020 to 405,900 in 2025. Currently, more than a quarter of them (28%) work in Geneva.

While an increase is still underway at the end of the lake (+1%), it has slowed by half compared to last year . Some 114,700 foreign cross-border workers were active in the canton at the end of March.

Nationally, more than half of the cross-border workforce is domiciled in France (57.8%). A relatively large proportion resides in Italy (22.7%), as well as in Germany (16.3%).
