Portugal welcomed a record number of foreign tourists


The Portuguese hospitality sector is expected to generate a turnover of €6.7 billion in 2024, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year, according to the INE.
Portugal welcomed 29 million foreign tourists last year, a new record that represents a 9.3% increase compared to 2023, with Spain, the United Kingdom, and France remaining the main countries of origin, the National Statistics Institute announced Wednesday.
Visitors from the United States experienced the strongest increase (+16.9%), making them the fifth largest source country for tourists visiting the Iberian country last year, behind Germany.
Portugal's hospitality sector is expected to generate €6.7 billion in revenue in 2024, an 11% increase over the previous year, according to the INE. Total tourism revenue represents nearly 10% of the country's GDP and around 20% of its exports, according to data from the Bank of Portugal.
