Thunderclap: the State immediately suspends aid, affecting thousands of French people

Thunderclap: the State immediately suspends aid, affecting thousands of French people

Many households will not be able to benefit from the system for several months.

This is a particularly unexpected announcement. The government will suspend aid that benefits thousands of French people each year. "The funds allocated for the entire year 2025 have already been almost entirely used up," a source close to the case told Le Parisien , which revealed the information. June is expected to be the last month of payments. With only half the year gone, the coffers are already empty.

While those receiving RSA (Responsible Social Security), unemployment benefits, and other social assistance can immediately breathe a sigh of relief, those undertaking construction work should be concerned. The "Ma Prime Rénov'" (My Renovation Bonus) program is expected to be discontinued within the next few days. This state aid allows households to finance renovations to their properties, particularly to improve their home insulation and obtain a better rating on their Energy Performance Certificate (DPE).

Since January 1, 2025, more than 63,000 renovations have already been carried out thanks to Ma prime Rénov'. €700 million in aid has been granted, mainly for energy improvements: the installation of an air/water heat pump, a pellet stove, or a log stove were the three main purchases partially financed through the scheme. The replacement of windows and patio doors is also regularly carried out with the help of this funding.

Launched in 2020, "Ma Prime Rénov'" has since helped renovate 2.5 million homes, costing the government €14 billion. Under fire for several weeks, the aid was questioned by the government due to fraud, but also by beneficiaries due to its complexity, payment delays, and controls.

Despite this almost official halt—"not everything is a done deal," the Ministry of Housing insists—those whose applications have already been approved should be able to benefit from the aid. But the curtain will close on new applications. This raises a question: will this abrupt suspension mark the complete disappearance of the Ma Prime Rénov' scheme, or will it return in 2026?
