Hasparren: Bethi Gazte seniors discover the world

The Bethi Gazte association offers a variety of outings, from Salies-de-Béarn to Bardenas Reales via Lake Geneva, for the elderly of Hasparren
The elders of the commune of Hasparren, united in the Bethi Gazte association under the leadership of a very dynamic management team, have participated in several very interesting outings in recent months.
In April, a detailed tour of Salies-de-Béarn, a town of salt and thermal baths, brought together around fifty participants, despite unpredictable weather. Both parts of the town (old town and thermal baths) were able to be visited on foot, but the tour by miniature train was not possible due to the vagaries of the weather.
Long journeysIn early May, a good twenty Hazpandars joined Souletins and Béarnais for a ten-day excursion near Lake Geneva. Staying in Évian, the fifty or so participants in this trip, organized by the departmental association Générations Mouvement, were able to discover or better understand this region of the Swiss and French Alps (Montreux, Geneva, Chamonix, among others).
At the end of June, we had to get up early to catch the bus that took about sixty participants to the Bardenas Reales, south of Pamplona, for a complete change of scenery in this semi-desert region. The weather was splendid and the setting magnificent. After enjoying the arid landscapes and a delicious "local" meal, a visit to the fortified medieval village of Ujue rounded off a beautiful day.
Local outingsAt the beginning of July, fewer enthusiasts (25) for a more "local" outing (Louhossoa, Saint-Michel, Ossès) with the highlight being a visit to a glassblower's workshop who explained his work to the participants with a spectacular demonstration. The visit to the Brana distillery in Ossès allowed them to learn more about products that are not limited to the famous "Poire Brana". Gourmets stocked up on delicious syrups and liqueurs.
After an August break, the little Rhune train and the Biarritz Sea Museum will welcome globetrotters, before the last outing of the year to the Col d'Osquich for the traditional wood pigeon tasting.
