"These files recall the darkest hours of our history": Christian Estrosi demands explanations for the profiling of which Eric Ciotti is accused

The case is shaking the Côte d'Azur. While the Nice prosecutor's office is investigating possible illegal files attributed to Éric Ciotti , Christian Estrosi has spoken out on BFMTV. The mayor of Nice is demanding answers and has not ruled out legal action.
According to the prosecution, the preliminary investigation concerns "recording or storage of sensitive personal data without the consent of the persons concerned."
On Tuesday, August 12, searches were carried out in the offices of the Alpes-Maritimes departmental council , including those of Éric Ciotti's colleagues.
Files, with evocative names like Pillars 2023 or Relays of Influence 2024, are said to contain contact details and very personal information on hundreds of people: political opinions, religion, health, financial situation.
Faced with these suspicions, Christian Estrosi issued an ultimatum: "If what you are saying is false, I expect a complete denial from those who are behind it."
"The Darkest Hours"For the Nice mayor, the implications are serious: "A file of Jews, homosexuals, police officers... Imagine that these files, which would simply recall the darkest hours of our history, were a reality and a practice in our democracy."
He states that if these facts were confirmed, "these practices are despicable and dangerous" and promises to "do everything possible to obtain the whole truth" .
The CNIL has already been notifiedChristian Estrosi indicates that the CNIL has already been alerted and announces that he is studying "the conditions under which we will take the necessary action, whether with the CNIL or with the judicial authorities" .
The mayor of Nice insists: "We cannot accept […] that today, all my fellow citizens can imagine being cited, recorded, followed and spied on in all circumstances." He also warns of the risks of hacking such data, "which could fall into the hands of regimes likely to make extremely dangerous use of it."
And to conclude, determined: "I want my fellow citizens to know that I will be a barrier, that I will stand up against such an attitude."
