2026 Municipal Elections in Lyon: Three New Left-Wing Parties Rally to Grégory Doucet

On Monday, October 27, the left-wing parties Après, Génération-s and Debout announced that they were aligning themselves with Green mayor Grégory Doucet in the 2026 municipal election race.
L'Après Rhône, Génération-s and Debout are officially joining current Mayor Grégory Doucet's list for the 2026 municipal elections. This was announced on Monday, October 27, by Lyon City Councillor Laurent Bosetti (LFI) on his X account: "In Lyon, L'Après, Génération-s and Debout will form a united list in 2026 with the left-wing forces of the New Popular Front, facing candidate Aulas and his unashamed right-wingers," the councillor said in a press release.
This announcement comes just days after Lyon LFI MP Anaïs Belouassa-Cherifi announced her candidacy against Grégory Doucet and Jean-Michel Aulas. Despite this announcement, the left-wing parties are maintaining their unity, leaving LFI to go it alone.

"The risk of a rightward shift in Lyon obliges us (...) It is therefore in a responsible and combative spirit that we are joining today the list that will be led by Grégory Doucet," asserts Laurent Bosetti. After, Génération-s and Debout are thus positioning themselves against the other candidates in the municipal race. An "obligation," driven by the proposals of Grégory Doucet's main opponent, Jean-Michel Aulas, described as "right-wing" by the deputy.
A few weeks ago, it was Raphaël Glucksmann's party, Place publique, which announced its intention to form an alliance in the first round with the outgoing executives in both the city and metropolitan areas, in the face of the "populist and demagogic wave launched by the candidacy of Jean-Michel Aulas."
"The camp that says it was better before wants to send Lyon back to the last century, making way for cars on bus lanes and pedestrian zones, while we are fighting to reach regulatory thresholds in terms of air quality," says Laurent Bosetti. He concludes: "We know that the right (...) promises us a reduction in public spending, austerity, the deterioration of social and environmental policies, and the deterioration of everyday public services."
Faced with this union, Jean-Michel Aulas is supported by the Republicans, Horizons, Renaissance, the UDI (Union of Independent Democrats), and the Nice-based Ecology in the Center movement. The former OL president, who still cannot refocus his candidacy, is trying to capitalize on the few left-wing supporters he receives, such as that of Alain Giordano, former deputy in charge of green spaces under Gérard Collomb.
