Censorship of the Duplomb law: relief after the momentum

This is fantastic news and a huge relief for all those who fought against the Duplomb law. And especially for the more than 2 million people who, in an unprecedented surge, have, since July 10, signed a petition demanding the repeal of a text dictated by agricultural lobbies with disregard for the preservation of biodiversity and human health. Parliament was overruled by the Constitutional Council, which, this Thursday evening, censored a provision of the law authorizing the reintroduction of acetamiprid, deeming it contrary to the Environmental Charter. This pesticide, which belongs to the neonicotinoid family, whose Libération has been denouncing the dangers for many years, was demanded by beet and hazelnut producers to combat insects ravaging their crops. They relied on the fact - indisputable - that this product is authorized in the rest of Europe and that its ban in France caused a distortion of competition.
But this authorization suddenly became one environmental step too far. Moreover, it was adopted without debate thanks to a parliamentary scam. The citizen mobilization, driven by Fleur Breteau , founder of the Cancer Anger collective, who, on the day the law was adopted, accused MPs of being "the allies of cancer ," was immediate and massive, also bringing together doctors and scientists. Emmanuel Macron undoubtedly hoped, faced with this popular uprising, that the Constitutional Council would make his task easier by censoring the text. The Sages also indirectly gave the left and environmental defenders new life just weeks before a political season that promises to be stormy.
