Administrative account rejected by the municipal council in Saint-Maximin: the prefect has ruled

It was last June 23rd. At the Saint-Maximin municipal council meeting, elected officials rejected the 2024 administrative account , with 18 votes "against" and only 11 votes "for". The opposition stressed that it "doubted its sincerity" , after having mentioned subsidies "deferred from year to year" , which would artificially inflate the accounts. Without mentioning the debt, which "has grown considerably since [the election of mayor Alain Decanis] " .
But the arguments put forward were more political than financial. Rather than the accuracy of the administrative accounts, the use of public money was criticized.
As a result, the prefect of Var took control and requested the Regional Audit Office (CRC) for advice and verification .
The latter made its findings public on July 29: "The draft 2024 administrative account of the main budget is not consistent with the corresponding management account established by the public accountant and proposes to retain, for the establishment of the 2024 administrative account, the 2024 management account."
Only a discrepancy of 403.61 euros was noted, resulting from an entry made in the wrong place. The CRC nevertheless specified: "This difference in allocation has no impact on the result (...)."
To regularize the situation, the prefect simply substituted the management account prepared by the public accountant for the administrative account, which was prepared by the municipality. A decree was issued, the Var prefecture announced on Wednesday, August 6.
