Duplomb Agricultural Law: LFI and environmentalists file a motion of censure

It is the seventh time the Bayrou government has been opposed. Members of parliament from La France Insoumise and the Green Party filed a motion of censure against François Bayrou's government on Friday, May 30, following the tactical rejection of a proposed agricultural law by the central bloc and the far right, which they denounced as a move aimed at "muzzling national representation."
Submitted by 56 LFI elected officials and two from the Green group, the motion of censure will be put to a vote by MPs early next week. 289 votes are needed for its adoption. It therefore has very little chance of passing, due to a lack of support, even on the left.
To circumvent the approximately 1,500 environmental amendments and 800 LFIs tabled, supporters of the so-called Duplomb law, which notably includes the reintroduction of a neonicotinoid pesticide by way of derogation, themselves approved a "motion to reject" the text on Monday. It will now be examined behind closed doors by a joint committee (CMP) of seven senators and seven deputies.
An "anti-democratic coup" that "sets a dangerous precedent," denounce the signatories of the motion of censure. "Supporters of Senator Duplomb's text have expressed their panic at the idea that the parliamentary debate will reveal to the general public the true nature of this bill , " drafted "to meet the demands of agribusiness," they add.
According to the signatories, this law, which they call the "pesticides law," includes "measures that are destructive to biodiversity and dangerous to our health," particularly due to the reauthorization of acetamiprid, a neonicotinoid .
The Socialists and Communists did not want to join this motion of censure. "It was the deputies themselves who voted for the motion of rejection, not the government. So it makes no sense here to censure the government," explained a source in the Socialist group.
It will be examined no later than Wednesday, June 4. After a period of 48 hours following its submission, the examination of a motion of censure must in fact take place "no later than the third following sitting day" , according to the Assembly's regulations.
François Bayrou has already survived six motions of censure from the left: one following his general policy statement, four on the state and social security budgets, and the last one brought in February by the socialists to protest against the influence of the far right.
