The vote of confidence put forward by François Bayrou was overwhelmingly rejected on Monday, September 8, 2025, by 364 votes to 194. Disavowed by the far right and the left, without securing a full government base, the Prime Minister will have to submit his government's resignation to Emmanuel Macron.

Emmanuel Macron is back to square one: he needs to find a new prime minister. Asked by François Bayrou, the deputies refused to vote in his favor by 364 votes to 194 on September 8, 2025. A "deliberate test of truth," the president of the Democratic Movement, who was on the verge of losing his voice, admitted. Concluding, while acknowledging his departure before the vote: "You have the power to overthrow the government, but you do not have the power to erase reality."
