Mayoral race: Shawinigan businesspeople court Yves Lévesque

Mayoral race: Shawinigan businesspeople court Yves Lévesque

Will former Trois-Rivières mayor Yves Lévesque run for mayor of his former city or Shawinigan? His decision has been made, but he doesn't want to announce it just yet. On Friday morning, Shawinigan businesspeople gathered to try to convince him.

Yves Lévesque was welcomed into a restaurant filled with about fifty members of the business community. The main person concerned had an appointment with well-known businessman Martin Mondou, but other businesspeople took the opportunity to gather to demonstrate to Yves Lévesque that they want him to become mayor of Shawinigan.

The members of the business community met on site are unanimous: they would like the city of Shawinigan to benefit from Yves Lévesque's experience.

Could the business gathering have changed Yves Lévesque's mind? According to the latest news, Yves Lévesque has reportedly chosen the mayoralty of Trois-Rivières.

Two Shawinigan residents who attended the rally affirm that it is. They report that Yves Lévesque mentioned percentages of his decision-making that were more in Shawinigan's favor.

“So, people applauded: 95% Shawinigan, 5% Trois-Rivières,” says Shawinigan resident Linda Lalime.

These are words that make Yves Lévesque laugh when he recalls them. "Percentages don't mean anything," he says.

Yves Lévesque confirms that his decision has been made. But we'll have to wait a little longer for an official response. He promises an announcement after the construction holidays.
