Middle East: Donald Trump will not tolerate the continuation of the trial against Benjamin Netanyahu

US President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will "not tolerate" the continuation of the corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , which he had already called for to be cancelled.

"The United States of America spends billions of dollars a year, far more than any other nation, to protect and support Israel," the US president wrote on his Truth Social platform. "We will not tolerate this," he added, referring to the ongoing trial in Israel.

Benjamin Netanyahu "is negotiating a deal with Hamas, which will include the release of the hostages. How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to stay in a courtroom all day?" Donald Trump continued.

On Friday, an Israeli court rejected Benjamin Netanyahu's request to suspend his hearings in his corruption trial for two weeks. The Israeli prime minister's lawyer had requested the postponement of the hearings scheduled to resume next week, citing "developments in the region and the world" following the war with Iran and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He subsequently submitted a new request to the court requesting the cancellation of the next two hearings.

Donald Trump had already called on Wednesday for the trial to be canceled, describing it as a "witch hunt." He had instead advocated for a pardon to be "granted to a Great Hero," following the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Benjamin Netanyahu has denied any wrongdoing during the trial, which has been postponed several times since its opening in May 2020.

In one case, he and his wife, Sara Netanyahu , are accused of accepting more than $260,000 in luxury goods, such as cigars, jewelry, and champagne, from billionaires in exchange for political favors. In two other cases, Benjamin Netanyahu is accused of attempting to negotiate more favorable coverage in two Israeli media outlets.
