Sarlat: the cultural center will be named in honor of former mayor Louis Delmon

The City Council unanimously decided to name the cultural center, which was launched in 1986, after the recently deceased former mayor.
Adopted unanimously. The Sarlat cultural center will be named after Louis Delmon, the former communist mayor of the city (1977-1989), who played a major role in the creation of the project, which was completed in 1986. The main hall is named after Paul Éluard.
The current chief magistrate, Jean-Jacques de Peretti, proposed it in the preamble to the last Council , ahead of the LFI opposition municipal councillor Luis Ferreyra who had made the request.
At the time, the financial investment made by the city to equip itself with a suitable cultural facility was all the more significant given that state aid was never provided. Since the former mayor's death, his successor, in office since 1989, has repeatedly reiterated the commitment of Culture Minister Jack Lang to contribute 10 million francs (1.5 million euros) to the project. A promise made during a presidential visit by François Mitterrand, but which was not honored. With this acerbic comment: "If the president had spoken, it might have been respected."
