The Trump administration will pay illegal immigrants to leave the United States. The U.S. government announced Monday that it plans to cover their transportation costs and provide them with $1,000 in exchange for their departure, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “Deportations can be costly and time-consuming, as U.S. authorities often have to detain migrants for extended periods, coordinate travel documents, and arrange chartered flights to numerous countries,” the New York Times reported . “Problems also frequently arise with migrants from countries that do not accept their citizens or make the process so cumbersome that it further lengthens the deportation process.” The Trump administration estimates that this initiative could reduce deportation costs by 70%. The average cost to arrest, detain, and deport an illegal immigrant in the United States is currently $17,121, according to DHS.

Bolivia: Judge who canceled the arrest warrant against Evo Morales arrested. Magistrate Lilian Moreno was arrested Monday morning on “a highway in Santa Cruz while on her way to work” before being “transferred by plane to the seat of government” in La Paz, reports the Bolivian newspaper El Deber . “The police executed” an arrest warrant against the judge, Attorney General Roger Mariaca said Monday. The Ministry of Justice announced Sunday that it had denounced Lilian Moreno for the alleged offenses of disobedience to constitutional resolutions and prevarication, that is, dereliction of duty, after she canceled the arrest warrant against the former Bolivian president, who is being prosecuted for trafficking a minor. In October, the prosecutor's office ordered the arrest of the indigenous leader, who intends to run for a fourth term as president of the country in the August 17 presidential election.

The Pentagon chief is ordering a 20 percent cut in the number of top military officers. The positions targeted are those of serving four-star generals and admirals, according to a memo from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth released Monday. The Pentagon chief also ordered a 20 percent cut in the number of senior officers in the National Guard or a 10 percent cut in other military personnel. According to Politico , the Defense Department plans to "consolidate the European and African Commands, both led by four-star generals." During his Senate hearing in January, Hegseth said the Pentagon needed to reduce bureaucracy.

A Popemobile belonging to Francis will be converted into a children's clinic in Gaza. "Work is already underway" to transform the small white vehicle, Caritas, the Vatican's humanitarian arm, said in a statement. The car is currently in Bethlehem, in the West Bank, where the Pope left it as a gift in 2014 after an official visit, reports Italian media outlet Il Post . The small mobile clinic—a project supported by the Pope during his lifetime—will be equipped with suture kits, syringes, oxygen, and vaccines stored in a mini-fridge. The vehicle, staffed by a driver, will be operated by a team of doctors. "When the humanitarian corridor with Gaza reopens," the vehicle provided to Caritas Jerusalem will be "ready to provide basic care to children," the organization said.
