Video: Child Violence: Parents Worried, Survey Says

39% (-3 points since February 12, 2025) of parents say they are often worried about their children's safety, 40% (+3) occasionally, 17% (+4) rarely and 3% (-4) never. Concern for their children is widespread across the country, and is present in rural communities (83% often or occasionally), small/medium-sized towns (75%) and large towns (79%).
For the French, the murder of a school supervisor in Nogent is not a marginal phenomenon but, on the contrary, represents a real rise in juvenile violence in our country. 87% of French people believe that this act reflects a real rise in juvenile violence in our country, compared to only 12% who believe it represents a marginal phenomenon and that juvenile violence has always existed.
The main measures announced a few weeks ago by Elisabeth Borne or already implemented are considered rather effective in combating violence against minors and school violence.
In detail:
72% of French people believe that the systematic reporting of incidents of violence, including in private schools under contract, is effective (33% of whom say it is very effective). 69% also consider the systematic establishment of a disciplinary council if a student carries a bladed weapon in a school (38% of whom say it is very effective). 67% approve of the installation of metal detectors at the entrance to schools (31% of whom say it is very effective). 64% consider random bag searches at the entrance to schools to be effective (29% of whom say it is very effective).
The same approval is shown for measures concerning student mental health. The presence in each middle and high school of two staff members trained in mental health to identify signs of distress, welcome students' comments, and refer them to appropriate professionals is considered effective by 64% (including 20% very effective). Fifty-nine percent also consider it effective that all six-year-old students should benefit from a personalized analysis of their health situation (including 18%).
