I subscribeEvery year, the same disaster repeats itself in Greece. The country is plagued by violent fires in the summer, fueled by scorching temperatures and powerful winds. Since Saturday, July 26, five devastating forest fires have broken out on the outskirts of Athens in the Attica region, in the Peloponnese west of the capital, on the islands of Euboea and Kythira, and in the Chania region of Crete, the latter finally being brought under control. While firefighters continue their work, villages have been evacuated and extensive damage has been reported.
