Thomas Pesquet to chair a Space Foundation

The 55th edition of the Paris Air Show, which is being held at Le Bourget (Seine-Saint-Denis) until Sunday, June 22, was the occasion to announce the upcoming creation of the Space Foundation. Laurence Monnoyer-Smith, director of the French National Center for Space Studies (CNES), responsible for sustainable development, is awaiting the imminent publication in the Official Journal of the decrees relating to this foundation, launched by three universities – Toulouse Capitole, Lyon-II, ISAE Supaero –, the CNES, ACRI-ST – a company from Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes) specializing in the use of Earth observation data by local authorities – and the Cannes Pays de Lérins urban community.
This foundation will be chaired by French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who will take the reins at the first board meeting, scheduled for early September. At a time when space research is the subject of many questions, particularly from an ecological point of view, Laurence Monnoyer-Smith is counting on this foundation to better "raise awareness of the usefulness of space for the common good."
