Cameroonian player's own dunk in a U19 World Cup match

Cameroonian player's own dunk in a U19 World Cup match

The image is surreal, and still incomprehensible after repeated viewings. A player from Cameroon's U19 team scored an own basket with an authoritarian dunk on a simple throw-in. This blunder led to an embarrassing defeat, as Cameroon, which was leading by six points (80-74) with 49 seconds left, lost after two overtimes to Australia (101-96).

A rather strange defeat, the second already in this U19 World Cup for the Cameroonians, who are playing in Group D, alongside the French and United States teams. Team USA, which also beat the Bleuets this Sunday (108-77), is Cameroon's next opponent on Tuesday (at 5:15 p.m.).

This mishap is reminiscent of the one Marie Pardon encountered during a Boulangère Wonderligue match between Tarbes and Basket Landes at the end of March. At the end of the second quarter of this match, the Landes point guard scored a two-pointer... against her own goal, thinking the period was over.
