Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé is suffering from acute gastroenteritis, which required hospital tests, his club announced on Thursday, June 19, explaining his absence from the first match of the Club World Cup against Al-Hilal (1-1). The captain of the French national team "has an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized to undergo various tests and receive appropriate treatment," Real Madrid wrote in a statement.

Having been weakened in recent days, Mbappé missed training on Tuesday and was not on the team sheet for the Merengues' first match in the United States, where they were held to a draw by Riyadh on Wednesday. Real Madrid's next match in the competition is against Mexican club Pachuca on Sunday at 9 p.m.
