While the Minister of Sports described a Ligue 1 player's refusal to wear the LGBT+ armband as "professional misconduct" in May, her silence towards the French team raises questions about the difference in treatment.

In top-level football, gender equality is a long road with no end in sight. Before the Qatari World Cup and even during it, France's captain, Hugo Lloris, came under heavy fire during his numerous media appearances over France's refusal to wear an LGBT+ armband, which other teams, such as the German and Dutch national teams, were all the more willing to adopt in a country where homosexuality is a criminal offense.

On Saturday, the Blues completed their journey to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Euro ( elimination against the Germans, 1-1 and 5-6 on penalties ) without wearing an armband that nine teams out of sixteen – including the five Nordic countries, as always – had chosen.
