Football: Relief for Lyon, finally maintained in Ligue 1 after its appeal

Football: Relief for Lyon, finally maintained in Ligue 1 after its appeal

Two weeks after learning of their administrative demotion , the Rhône club has settled its position. The LFP's decision was overturned by the federal body, which is keeping Olympique Lyonnais in the top flight for the 2025-2026 season.

Salary control and limited transfers

Although the worst has been avoided for the Gones, not everything is settled yet. The DNCG has accompanied its green light with two restrictive measures: a framework for the payroll and transfer compensation , in other words transfers .

Olympique Lyonnais reacted a few hours after the official announcement, through a press release: "Olympique Lyonnais welcomes the decision, made today by the DNCG, to keep the Club in Ligue 1. OL thanks the Appeal Committee for recognizing the ambition of the new management of the Club, determined to ensure serious management in the future."

The club also highlighted the support received in recent weeks: " The new management, supported by the commitment and dedication of our shareholders and lenders, is extremely grateful for all the support received both inside and outside the Club, including from its supporters, employees, players, partners and elected officials."

Heading for the 2025-2026 season

After this repealed relegation , OL hopes to start anew: " Today's decision is the first step to restoring confidence in Olympique Lyonnais. We can now focus our attention on our sporting objectives, fully preparing for next season."

Relief is therefore in order between the Rhône and the Saône.
