Frédéric Vasseur extends his contract at the head of Scuderia Ferrari

Frédéric Vasseur extends his contract at the head of Scuderia Ferrari

Frédéric Vasseur is the boss of the Scuderia. And he will remain so. Ferrari announced this Thursday morning via a press release that the contract of the Frenchman, recruited as Team Principal at the start of 2023, has been extended "for several years" . "Fred joined the Scuderia at the start of 2023, bringing with him extensive experience in the field of motorsport and a proven ability to develop talent and build competitive teams at all levels of racing," the announcement states.

“Since then, he has laid a solid foundation with the ambition of returning Ferrari to the top of Formula 1. The renewal of Fred’s contract reflects Ferrari’s determination to build on the foundations laid so far. His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation and strive for performance perfectly aligns with Ferrari’s values and long-term ambitions. Under Fred’s leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused and committed to continuous improvement. The trust placed in him reflects the team’s confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces the shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari fans, drivers and team members expect and deserve.”

In early June, the Italian press suggested that Vasseur was in the hot seat , which prompted a strong reaction from the man in question. Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton publicly supported their boss and called for him to remain in his position. These wishes were heard by the brand's management, which therefore maintains its confidence in Vasseur for the coming seasons.

“Today we want to acknowledge what has been achieved and commit to achieving what remains to be done,” Ferrari’s CEO said in the statement. “This reflects our confidence in Fred’s leadership, a confidence based on shared ambition, mutual expectations, and clear responsibilities. We move forward with determination and focus, united in our pursuit of the level of performance that Ferrari must achieve.”

“I am grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me,” said Frédéric Vasseur. “ This renewal is not just a confirmation, it is a challenge that pushes us to continue to progress, to remain focused and to deliver on our commitments. Over the past 30 months, we have laid solid foundations, and now we must consolidate them with consistency and determination. We know what is expected of us, and we are all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step together.”

Heading into this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari sits second in the Constructors' Championship, well behind McLaren but ahead of Mercedes and Red Bull, says Benedetto Vigna. While, unlike those three teams, the Scuderia has yet to win in 2025 (apart from Hamilton's sprint race victory in Shanghai), it has secured five podium finishes thanks to Charles Leclerc.
