French Cycling Championships: Start postponed and distance shortened, road race adapts to heatwave

Due to the high temperatures expected this Sunday, June 29, the start of the men's road race of the French Men's Cycling Championships has been postponed and the course has been shortened.
By Le ParisienDue to the heatwave , the French Road Cycling Championships in Les Herbiers, Vendée, are adapting. In a press release, the organizers announced that the road race would be shortened by one lap.
Instead of the 14 laps and 231 km originally planned between Les Herbiers town hall and Mont des Alouettes, the race will ultimately be 13 loops and 214.5 km long. The race's start time has therefore also been changed. The riders will not set off at 11:35 a.m. as planned, but at 12:00 p.m.
These changes are a consequence of the high temperatures expected across much of France this weekend. In their press release, organizers indicate that temperatures are expected to be around 36 degrees Celsius (96 degrees Fahrenheit) with winds gusting around 10 km/h (6 mph).
