Newly crowned pink jersey wearer Isaac Del Toro will have to defend his first place, while his teammate - but leader on paper - at UAE-Team Emirates, Juan Ayuso, is 1'13'' behind.
The time trial will also be crucial for Primoz Roglic, the announced favorite for this Giro d'Italia, who did not take the expected start and is already 2'25'' behind. Given his qualities as a rider, the Slovenian will still be one of the favorites for the stage victory, even if he will have to be wary of Joshua Tarling, winner of the first time trial in Albania, or Wout van Aert, who has found his form after raising his arms in Siena on Sunday.
