Jonas Vingegaard will not be seen at the World Road Cycling Championships in Rwanda, from September 21 to 28. The Dane, two-time winner of the Tour de France (2022 and 2023), announced this on Thursday, August 21, at a press conference, ahead of the start of the Tour of Spain, given on Saturday, June 23 in Turin (Italy), in which he is participating. "We don't know how I'll come out of this Vuelta, how I'll experience it," he justified.

The 28-year-old Visma-Lease a Bike rider, however, is expected to compete in the European Championships, which will be held in France at the beginning of October, in the Drôme and Ardèche regions. "I'll have a bit of time (...) to prepare for that," explained the rider who finished second in the 2025 Tour de France, behind Tadej Pogacar.

In the women's race, Frenchwoman Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, winner of the last Grand Boucle and also a rider for the Dutch team, has also decided to withdraw from the competition in Kigali to focus on the continental event. "I have to be smart [in my choice of program], " she said when announcing her decision on August 11 .
