Nottingham Forest player Taiwo Awoniyi has emerged from an induced coma after a successful operation

Nottingham Forest player Taiwo Awoniyi has emerged from an induced coma after a successful operation

The Nigerian international collided with the goalpost in the 88th minute of Sunday's 2-2 Premier League draw against Leicester. He returned to the pitch after receiving treatment but limped for the final ten minutes of the match.

Forest, who said on Tuesday that Awoniyi was recovering well from surgery, have not yet responded to requests for comment. The seventh-placed Premier League side 's manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, explained after the match that the player remained on the pitch due to a misunderstanding between the medical and coaching staff.

According to a BBC Sport report, Awoniyi suffered a ruptured bowel in the incident and the shock was "potentially life-threatening".
