Tennis: Loïs Boisson, revelation of Roland-Garros, fails to qualify for Wimbledon

Loïs Boisson, a surprise semi-finalist at Roland Garros, was eliminated on Tuesday in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying by Canadian Carson Branstine, ranked 197th in the world, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
The new French number one, 65th in the WTA rankings at 22, lost in nearly two hours in the first match on grass of her career, the first played since her exceptional run on Parisian clay.
The Dijon player started the match with a clean sheet, but nothing went as hoped on the Roehampton grass, in the London countryside where the qualifiers for the main draw are being held.
On the windswept court, and in front of some 800 spectators, the Frenchwoman clearly lacked her bearings on grass, a surface where bounces and movements are unusual. She only managed to keep the rallies going and irritate her opponent in the second set, which ended in a tie-break (7 to 1).
Despite her emergence a few days earlier on the clay courts of Roland-Garros, Loïs Boisson did not receive an invitation from the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (AELTC) , organizer of the third Grand Slam of the year.
Invited to Paris, the player, who was then ranked 361st in the world, caused a sensation by reaching the semi-finals after defeating Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva, among others. She was beaten in the semi-finals by the American Coco Gauff , the eventual winner.
By virtue of his new ranking, Boisson was the number one seed in qualifying at Wimbledon.
